Dubai Police has ramped up the implementation of Artificial Intelligence at its Maritime Operations Centre, enhancing maritime security. The system was playing a pivotal role in the protection of Dubai’s coastline during a time of increased tensions in the region related to the recent US-Iran conflict. The operations centre directed security operations while maintaining the continuity of maritime activities, an official said.
The centre is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including smart surveillance, radar systems, high-resolution cameras, and marine scanning systems, all powered by artificial intelligence to enable real-time monitoring of coastal waters. It also has a unified command structure with Government departments, port operators, immigration authorities, security services and private maritime companies, for better coordination in emergencies.
The operations room is now the hub for all security incidents, emergencies and operational needs that happen in Dubai waters,” said Dubai Police Ports Station Director Brigadier Dr Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi. The integrated system enabled quick response and ensured security of the people along the emirate’s coast.

Dubai Police also deployed their specialist diving teams to retrieve and inspect suspicious items at sea, including debris which they suspect was related to drones and other aerial devices. The operations also contributed to the overall maritime security efforts, officials said, while removing what could be potentially hazardous materials.
The maritime response network comprising 12 sea patrols, seven land patrols, two beach buggy patrols and two foot patrol units, which remain in place across key maritime locations, will continue to operate at 24-hour readiness. Police also provide support for boat breakdowns, marine accidents, boat distress calls and rescues involving tourists, boat owners and jet ski users.
In the coming years, officials said they are planning to continue developing drone use for the coastline and emergency response. Drone-box systems have already been set up at certain beaches and island sites to provide quicker aerial assessments and broader monitoring coverage. The project aligns with Dubai’s ongoing efforts to invest in cutting-edge technology to enhance maritime security, emergency preparedness, and the safety of its citizens and tourists who rely on the city’s coastal waters.
