Thousands of motorists faced a few hours of tedious travel today as Dubai Friday Traffic backed up on several of the city’s main thoroughfares. During the morning peak hour, drivers were held up on Al Khail Road (E44), Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311), and Sheikh Rashid Road, with some sections of these roads operating at reduced speeds. Heavy vehicle volumes and incidents were reported to be a factor in the slowdown, per Google Maps traffic data.
Al Khail Road between Ras Al Khor and Meydan saw particularly slow traffic while congestion grew close to the traffic merge with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311). The toll queue was also a major ordeal for motorists heading towards Dubai from Sharjah, particularly at Mirdif, before the situation eased down the E311. Sheikh Rashid Road also ran late in the region where commuters were entering the heart of Dubai, near major intersections.
Drivers should expect to travel for longer, maintain a good distance from other vehicles and check live navigation before making their way. Road incidents and the volume of traffic can cause changes to road conditions during peak hours, warranting the need for commuters to plan their routes accordingly.

Some areas saw moderate congestion, whereas Al Khail Road, E311, and Sheikh Rashid Road remained the areas with the longest delays. Google Maps also suggested reduced speed around key interchange areas where traffic came in from various directions.
Areas where commuters were advised to check traffic updates in real time were the business districts, and where possible, they were asked to take alternative routes. Road conditions usually get better later in the morning when the peak hour abates, but when unexpected accidents or vehicle breakdowns occur, travel times may be affected throughout the day.
